Skip Counting Worksheet: by 2s, 5s, 10s and 100s

Twelve number patterns with two missing numbers in each. Students count by 2s, then 5s, then 10s and 100s, and fill in the blanks. Patterns start at different numbers, not always at zero, so students have to keep counting rather than recite from memory.

Tips for teachers and parents

  • Ask your student to say the pattern aloud and tap the table for each number, then write the missing ones.
  • Before filling a blank, look at two numbers next to each other and ask how much they go up by.
  • Counting by 2s, 5s and 10s leads straight into the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
  • Some 10s patterns go past 100. Encourage students to keep going: 90, 100, 110.

Common mistakes

  • Adding 1 instead of the skip-counting step when a pattern starts at an unusual number such as 38.
  • Stopping at 100 when the pattern continues. The next number after 100 when counting by 10s is 110.

What to practice next

Skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s is a good bridge to the 2, 5 and 10 times table worksheets.

Frequently asked questions

What is skip counting?

Counting forward by the same amount each time instead of by ones, such as 5, 10, 15, 20.

Why do some patterns not start at zero?

Starting in the middle, such as 38, 40, 42, makes students think about the step instead of reciting a memorized list.

Is there an answer key?

Yes, page 2 has every missing number filled in.
