Rounding to the Nearest 10 and 100 Worksheet
This 3rd grade sheet gives mixed rounding practice with 16 3-digit numbers, and students round every number twice: to the nearest 10 and to the nearest 100. Part A has 10 numbers. Part B has 6 tricky numbers where the two answers are easy to mix up, such as 748 (750 and 700), 698 (700 and 700) and a number in the 900s that round to 1,000.

Tips for teachers and parents
- Round to the nearest 10 by looking at the ones digit, and to the nearest 100 by looking at the tens digit. Underline the digit that decides before writing anything.
- Always round from the original number. 748 rounds to 700, even though 748 rounds to 750 to the nearest ten and 750 would round to 800.
- A number line from 700 to 800 with a mark at 750 shows quickly which hundred is closer.
- When the two answers are the same, as with 698, that is fine: 698 is close to 700 either way.
Common mistakes
- Rounding twice, such as 748 to 750 and then 750 to 800. Ask students to look back at the tens digit of the original number.
- Writing 000 or 100 for a number like 994. Rounding 994 to the nearest hundred gives 1,000.
What to practice next
Use rounding to estimate sums and differences, such as 443 − 197, which is about 440 − 200.
Frequently asked questions
How do you round to the nearest ten and hundred?
For the nearest ten, look at the ones digit; for the nearest hundred, look at the tens digit. A digit of 0 to 4 means round down, and 5 to 9 means round up.
Why does 748 round to 700 and not 800?
To round to the nearest hundred you only look at the tens digit of 748, which is 4, so it rounds down to 700. Rounding to 750 first and then to 800 is a common mistake.
Is there an answer key?
Yes, page 2 of the PDF shows both answers for all 16 numbers.
