Dividing Decimals by Whole Numbers Worksheet
Sixteen problems that divide a decimal by a 1-digit whole number, like 74.24 ÷ 4 and 4.9 ÷ 7. Every problem divides exactly, so each answer ends at tenths or hundredths. Students use long division and place the decimal point straight above the one in the number being divided. The answer key is on page 2.

Part A Divide. Put the decimal point in the answer straight above the one in the number you are dividing.
- 54.3 ÷ 3 = 18.1
- 26.26 ÷ 2 = 13.13
- 24.75 ÷ 9 = 2.75
- 4.24 ÷ 8 = 0.53
- 103.53 ÷ 7 = 14.79
- 15.24 ÷ 4 = 3.81
- 39.55 ÷ 7 = 5.65
- 26.73 ÷ 9 = 2.97
Part B Divide. Check by multiplying your answer by the divisor.
- 108.15 ÷ 7 = 15.45
- 66.08 ÷ 4 = 16.52
- 6.72 ÷ 6 = 1.12
- 23.2 ÷ 8 = 2.9
- 95.5 ÷ 5 = 19.1
- 4.47 ÷ 3 = 1.49
- 34.44 ÷ 2 = 17.22
- 66.4 ÷ 4 = 16.6
Tips for teachers and parents
- Set it up as long division. Before dividing, put a decimal point in the answer straight above the one in the dividend.
- Then divide exactly as with whole numbers. The point is already in the right place.
- If the divisor does not go into the first digit, write a 0 above it: 4.9 ÷ 7 = 0.7.
- Check by multiplying: 0.7 × 7 = 4.9.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the decimal point out of the answer, so 74.24 ÷ 4 becomes 1856.
- Dropping a zero inside the answer, as in 90.45 ÷ 9 = 10.05, which is easy to write as 10.5.
What to practice next
When students are confident, try dividing by 2-digit numbers or by decimals.
Frequently asked questions
How do you divide a decimal by a whole number?
Use long division. Put the decimal point in the answer directly above the decimal point in the dividend, then divide as usual.
Do any of the answers go on forever?
No. Every problem on this sheet divides exactly and ends at tenths or hundredths.
Is there an answer key?
Yes, page 2 has every answer.
