2 Digit by 1 Digit Multiplication Worksheets (No Regrouping)
This is the first step from times tables to multi-digit multiplication. Every problem on the sheet works out without carrying, so students can focus on multiplying the ones, then the tens. It has 20 stacked problems and takes about 12 minutes.

Tips for teachers and parents
- Always start with the ones column. For 32 × 3, multiply 2 × 3 = 6 first, then 3 tens × 3 = 9 tens, which makes 96.
- Say the place value out loud: "3 tens times 3 is 9 tens." Students who name the tens make fewer column mistakes later.
- Have students line up the answer under the right columns. Graph paper or a lightly drawn grid helps with neat columns.
- Before starting, check the times tables involved. Every column uses a small fact such as 2 × 4 or 3 × 3, so a quick review of the 2s, 3s and 4s is enough.
Common mistakes
- Multiplying the tens digit and forgetting it stands for tens, so 32 × 3 is written as 9 and 6 in the wrong order. Point to each column as the student writes.
- Adding instead of multiplying the second step, such as 32 × 3 = 35. Ask the student to read the sign before each problem.
What to practice next
Move on to the regrouping sheet, where the ones column makes a number of 10 or more and a ten has to be carried.
Frequently asked questions
What does no regrouping mean in multiplication?
The product in each column is 9 or less, so nothing needs to be carried to the next column. 21 × 4 = 84 is an example.
What grade learns 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication?
It is part of the grade 4 standard 4.NBT.B.5, and many grade 3 classes start it once the times tables are known.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Page 2 of the PDF shows every answer under its problem.
