Long Division with 2-Digit Divisors Worksheet
A fifth grade long division sheet with 2-digit divisors such as 23, 47 and 89. The dividends have three or four digits and every problem divides exactly. Students estimate each digit of the answer, so this sheet is as much about rounding and multiplying as dividing. The answer key is on page 2.

Tips for teachers and parents
- Round the divisor to estimate each step. For 2652 ÷ 34, think of 34 as about 30: 265 ÷ 30 is about 8, then check 8 × 34 = 272. That is too big, so try 7.
- Writing out the first few multiples of the divisor (34, 68, 102, 136...) at the side of the problem saves a lot of guessing.
- If the subtraction leaves a number bigger than the divisor, the estimate was too small; try one more.
- Check each answer by multiplying it by the divisor.
Common mistakes
- Estimating too high and getting a negative subtraction. Rounding the divisor up instead of down gives safer first guesses.
- Forgetting to look at the first three digits when the divisor does not go into the first two.
What to practice next
Students who are confident here can move on to dividing decimals.
Frequently asked questions
What grade learns long division with 2-digit divisors?
Fifth grade. The Common Core standard 5.NBT.B.6 covers dividing up to 4-digit numbers by 2-digit divisors.
Do the problems have remainders?
No. Every problem divides exactly, so students can check their answer by multiplying.
Is there an answer key?
Yes, page 2 has every answer.
